It’s been a long time coming – true competition for the Mazda Miata! It’s been announced that the Kia Stinger is going into production.
The announcement comes from Aussieland, however, and that could mean that this breakout car may never see American soil. Kia Australia released details about the Stinger and the car will be a balls-out competitor not just for the Miata but for larger sports cars as well.
The Kia Stinger is going to come with two engine choices: a 3.8-liter V6 that’s pushing 311 horsepower and a 3.3-liter V6 with twin turbos that push a mind-blowing 362 ponies. An all-wheel drive version is likely to come down the pipe in the future which would make the Stinger a true force to contend with.
The Kia Stinger, more formally known as the GT4 Stinger, is still code-named the CK by Kia. An executive in the Land Down Under, speaking about the CK, said the Stinger should appear for sale in the third quarter of 2017. That gives North Americans a full year to begin begging and pleading with the Korean manufacturer to send a few our way.
While the Kia Stinger shares the same platform as the Genesis G80, the Stinger will be much more reasonably priced but not a giveaway. Expect to pay around $30-38,000 depending on equipment…if we get it here in America.
