Utah Man Steals Porsche 918 Spyder from Dealership

Most of us have the sense to admire what we cannot have and dream of the possibilities. One Utah man took his dream a step further, stealing a Porsche 918 Spyder for an evening of fun.

It happened around 4:30 in the afternoon in Salt Lake City. A 22-year-old cleptomaniac broke into a Porsche dealership, snagged the keys for the $1.4-million-dollar hypercar, and drove out of the showroom.

An extreme high must’ve followed, at least for a few hours. It was just six hours after the theft occurred that the sticky-fingered driver was apprehended. He’s now dreaming of his real-life “Grand Theft Auto” experience behind bars.

The Porsche 918 Spyder was recovered, no worse for wear, and will spend its time under closer supervision at the same dealership from which it was stolen. The miles that were accumulated in the unauthorized afternoon cruise may be of interest to the Porsche 918 Spyder’s future owner, as test drives aren’t normally part of the purchase decision and it’s definitely not a dealer demo…that might be worth a few bucks off the ticket price.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is one of the most expensive cars on the market and has 887 horsepower and 940 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates to 60 miles per hour in under 3 seconds. Think the car thief tested that stat?
